Local Ministries

Faith United Church Free Community Lunch-
Faith United Church prepares and serves a healthy lunch to our neighbors, the last Saturday of each month from noon to 1pm. Everyone is invited and welcome to enjoy this meal and fellowship. You can also select from new and gently use clothing and it is all free.

Forest Park Library Lunch Bunch-
Faith United Church reads aloud to children at the Forest Park Library, and then serves lunch the first Saturday of each month! This ministry provides a meal for children that are hungry for food and for something fun to do.

Loaves & FishesLoaves & Fishes-
Faith United Church members have been cooking and serving meals, by way of the Loaves & Fishes program, for many years. Faith United Church provides lunch on the fourth Thursday of every month. The Loaves & Fishes Program can serve as many as 200 for lunch, many of them families and children. This ministry helps people make ends meat!





Open PantryOpen Pantry Food Collection-

Faith United Church collects non-perishable food items for Open Pantry throughout the year and has a neighborhood wide food collection drive 4 times a year. We have collected tens of thousand pounds of food for Open Pantry. You can help by looking for the trailer with the Open Pantry banner each quarter or drop off food donations at the church any day.






Prayer Shawl Ministry-
Members and friends of Faith United Church knit or crochet Prayer Shawls to wrap, enfold, comfort, uplift and celebrate our family, neighbors, friends and friends we have yet to meet. If you like to knit or crochet, you can be a part of this vital ministry from the comfort of your own home. Contact us and we will tell you how.

Hat and Mitten Tree-
Throughout the Advent Season, members of Faith United Church collect hats, mittens and scarves to decorate our Christmas Tree. They are then distributed to local social services agencies and given to adults and children in the need of warm clothing.

School Supplies for Sumner Avenue School-
Faith United Church collects backpacks and school supplies in September and throughout the school year for our neighbor, Sumner Avenue School. Many Children who attend school do not have the supplies they need for homework or school projects. This ministry helps teachers and students with much needed supplies. You can support this mission by donating supplies when you see them on sale. Pencils colored pencils, markers, notebooks, construction paper, glue, etc. and drop them off at the church.

Hope Totes-
Faith United Church collects toiletries for the Springfield Rescue Mission’s Hope Totes. Many people take a daily shower for granted, but for homeless and at-risk people, basic hygiene often is a luxury they cant afford. The Springfield Rescue Mission’s “Operation Hope Tote” program provides basic toiletries for the areas needy. Toiletries needed include shampoo and conditioner, soap and body wash, brushes and combs, tissues, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, body lotion, body powder and lip balm. Sock, T-Shirts and underwear for men, women and children are also needed. You can support this mission by donating any of these supplies.

Teen Parenting Program-
Faith United Church supports The Teen Parenting Program, a program of Open Pantry Community Services. The Teen Parenting Program is a residential program for teenage parents and their children who are pregnant and or parenting in the need of a safe place to live. Each year Faith United Church throws a Baby Shower for the Teen Parenting Program, to help the teens and their children with much needed supplies like diapers, baby monitors, crib sheets and other baby supplies. At Christmas, members of Faith United Church purchase Christmas gifts for the mothers and children in the Teen Parenting Program.

Action Centered Tutoring-
ACTS provides faith-based, after-school tutoring for youth in Springfield. Faith United Church is a tutoring site for children from Sumner Avenue School and provides a safe location and snacks for children and their tutors.

Revitalize CDC-
Faith United Church participates in Revitalize CDC “Green and Fit” neighborhood block rebuild. Faith United Church sends volunteers to help rehabilitate homes of low-income families with children, the elderly, military veterans and people with disabilities. This program helps neighbors to continue to take pride in, and stay in their homes.

World Ministries

CROP Walk-
Faith United Church participates in the Greater Springfield Crop Hunger Walk. CROP Hunger walks are community-wide evens sponsored by Church World Services and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world.

Operation Christmas Child-
Each year Faith United Church fills empty shoeboxes with items that children would love, like a doll or a soccer ball – and other fun toys, school supplies, hygiene items, socks, combs, brushes, and notes of encouragement. These boxes are sent around the world at Christmastime to children, who for many this is the only gift they will receive. Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, and has collected and delivered more than 135 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 150 countries and territories. Faith United Church collects items for Operation Christmas Child all year long.

Our Churches Wider Mission-
In the United Church of Christ, one of the ways we are invited to share is through our offering to Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM). OCWM is the way that the United Church of Christ helps distribute services, resources, and expertise to all with in our faith community who have need.
