Assistant Minister

Peter Sylver

Peter’s faith journey began as a child growing up as the son of a preacher.  He is a fourth generation “PK” (Preacher’s Kid) whose father is a retired pastor in St. Petersburg Florida.  He is the youngest child from a family of 12 with 9 brothers and 2 sisters.  Peter was a child prodigy who began preaching as a young child throughout New York and the Northeast.

After a brief ‘hiatus’ from the Ministry, Peter returned to the Church in 2001 under the care of Rev. William A. Watson and the St. John’s Baptist Church of Westbury, Long Island.  It was under Rev. Watson that Peter was licensed to the Ministry and re-affirmed his call to the Ministry.  Peter and his family relocated to Western Massachusetts May of 2005 with his wife, Dr. Shannon Whalen and his 5 children, Misha age 15, Aaron age 13, Timothy age 2 ½, Bethany age 15 Months and Luke age 3 months.

Peter is a student at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Center Massachusetts and he and his family joined the church this past June.  He is a former Attorney, licensed to practice Law in New York State and has worked in the past as an Attorney with Kramer, Levin and Fried, Frank Harris Shriver and Jacobson and as the Associate Dean of Hofstra Law School and Adjunct Professor of Law.

Peter is currently licensed to the Ministry by St. John’s Baptist Church and is also in consideration for ‘In-Care’ status by the Hampden County Association of the United Church of Christ.
